John's First Blog Ever!
By John V. Scioscia, PT, Owner of Summit Physical Therapy
Hello and welcome to the new Summit Physical Therapy Website. As the owner of SPT, it only seemed right that I post our first blog. Truth be told, it’s actually my first blog ever. When I started in the Physical Therapy business 38 years ago, the use of computers was almost unheard of. Notes were handwritten and research took weeks. Now, patients bring me research articles they’ve printed off the web. Our latest embrace of digital technology is the development of our new integrated Website. Had I known that this was where Physical Therapy would go, I would have minored in Digital Technology at Boston University.
The greatest benefits of these digital advancements is our ability to easily communicate with our patients on multiple platforms. We can email you Home Exercise Programs and Patient Intake Forms prior to your first visit, saving you time in our office. We can post real-time updates on bad weather days. Our Therapists can communicate with you on your smart phone by voice, text, or email. Our patients can also communicate with us and each other via our Website or Facebook account. But at the end of the day, despite all of the improvements in efficiency and communication, Physical Therapy still comes down to us touching you.
With that in mind, let me tell you what separates us from the rest. We have been in business for 30 years and know most doctors on a personal basis. We are Independent and Therapist owned, and can feel free to discuss your case honestly without outside influence. Unlike many facilities, we accept and submit to all private insurance plans including Medicare and do not force additional services that increase your cost. We also offer Direct Access with no need to see a Doctor first as another way to save time and money. Summit Physical Therapy employs Therapists with combined experience of greater than 150 years and you will see the same faces each time. Your care is given by a Licensed Physical Therapist only, not an assistant, trainer, or aid. All of our Therapists have played college sports and have children who played high school and college sports as well, so we understand those stresses. We have specialized certifications in numerous areas and can treat nearly all orthopedic and neurological problems on an outpatient basis. Our new office space is modern and bright, extremely convenient with easy access, and plenty of parking. And we offer the most treatment hours available, daily from 7 AM until 9 PM and Saturday mornings as well as same day emergencies. At the end of the day, we believe that we provide the best care in the most efficient and convenient way possible.
This is the first posting of many to come. They will cover numerous topics including injury care, new treatment options, and patient stories. Please check the website often as it grows to also include short videos. This website has been a dream of mine for years and I made the right decision by giving this task to the youngest staff member, Paul Coviello, DPT. He is not only a great Physical Therapist but the Webmaster. He looks forward to hearing from you with comments and suggestions.
So, can Physical Therapy help you? Well, despite treating patients all of these years, I became a patient for the first time nine months ago after having my left hip replaced. Not being the best patient initially, I soon came to realize that even I was not special. I can attest as a Therapist and patient, that an commitment to your Physical Therapy will maximize your recovery in the shortest time possible. If you are having a problem, the sooner you address it, the easier it will be to treat. If you are having a problem, contact us to discuss your options. If you are having a problem, trust our professionals and experience The Summit Physical Therapy Difference!
